Have you ever purchased a poinsettia during Christmastime, only to have it die on you a few days or weeks later? These vibrant red, yellow or pink plants just shout the Christmas spirit look nice as centerpieces or on a mantel. Yet, poinsettias commonly drop leaves, turn brown or shrivel.
Instructions
1. Water your poinsettia frequently to keep it damp, but not wet.
2. Place your poinsettia near a window or other source of natural light. Keep it away from other sources of light. If you want your poinsettia to bloom right at Christmastime, keep it in the dark during the night from the middle of October through Thanksgiving.
3. Keep your poinsettia away from drafts.
4. Keep your poinsettia away from heating ducts.
5. Create the perfect temperature for your plant. Poinsettias prefer temperatures of 65 degrees F in the daytime and 60 degrees at night. Do not place your poinsettia near a fireplace.
Tips & Warnings
Try misting your poinsettia if your home is very dry. They like humid conditions.
Overwatering will cause your poinsettia to develop a fungus and inhibit the bracts (leaves) from blooming.
Poinsettia sap can irritate the mouth or skin of a pet, but they are not poisonous to children or animals.
